Seatrium Sells Texas Shipyard to Karadeniz Holding

Introduction 

Karadeniz Holding is a Turkish based company known for its floating power plants under the brand Karpowership. This brand is led by Osman Karadeniz. He is the chairman of the Karadeniz Holding and has its powership and shipbuilding strategy for decades. The company has grown into a large-scale global energy player. Recently Singapore based Seatrium agreed to sell its AmFELS shipyard in Brownsville, Texas to a small part of Karadeniz Holding for about US $51.7 million.

Karkeys Role in the Past 

In the past Karkey was one of the most well known subsidiaries of Karadeniz Holding. It was 

operating several powerships –large ships equipped with complete power plants. These 

powerships were sent to different countries to supply electricity directly to national grids. 

During its operational years Karkey played an important role by offering rapid energy 

solutions that were quicker and fast accessible. 

Key projects on the Texas Yard 

One of the big credentials of the AmFeLS shipyard is that it built Charybdis, a 472 foot vessel used to install wind turbines. This ship was built for Dominion Energy and it took five years to build and the cost was around US$815 million. They have also given the promise to finish another important vessel, a big dredger before giving away the yard.
